What to Do If You Get Fired

Joey Weber: Hi, this is Joey with www.marketabilitytraininglibrary.com This is another Marketability Training Minute. Today's topic, what to do if you get fired? So I got fired, what now? First of, just calmed down. People get fired, it happens, just except it and move on. Go rent a movie and relax. Next thing you need to do is, get your finances in order. If you doing have a budget, make one, make sure that you are paying all of the necessary expenses but cutting down on the luxuries, apply for unemployment. It's there for a reason, it comes out of your taxes, don't be shy, don't be embarrassed, apply for an unemployment. And do what you can to not rack up your Credit Card. A huge downfall a lot of people run into is using the credit card for expenses instead of their Debit Card once they have got laid off, then before they know it they have huge credit card bills and it's a deeper hole. Start your job search, decide what you want to do and why the last place didn't workout for you. Decide what your situation you want to be in. Don't be desperate enough to settle for anything, figure out where you want to be. Then write out your marketing materials, work on your resume, your cover letters, your portfolio and get written testimonials from your references. Last, network like a mad man. If you've been laid off, you have lots of time, talk to everybody and ask everybody for help. If you are nice, they will be sympathetic and they will help you out, points you in the right directions of people you need to talk to for various industries, just network, network, network.
