I have some tips of how to get references. You know, nobody ever puts bad reference on a resume. Be silly! But sometimes people, who think will speak highly of you, may be they are hovering some bad feelings. So, you got to be careful. So, I suggest to email your potential references first. Ask how they are, what they have been doing. Ask them if they felt good about your relationship with you and the quality of work you provided. Then check them out, Google up or ask around about the reputation, because you don't want to put a bad reference on your resume either. Then choose who you think will be the most influential references and by the way, you only need two or three. Call them back and ask for their permission. Ask them how they would like to be contacted; email, phone, in person and always follow up with a big thank you, and a progress report on you job hunting. Go, get those references.
