Joey Weber: Hi, this is Joey with www.marketabilitytraininglibrary.com and this is another Marketability Training Minute. Today, we are going to talk about discovering your transferable skills. Now what is a transferable skill? They are basically skills that you have used in one carrier or one job, they can be reused and reapplied to another. So how do you identify what your transferable skills are? First make a list of your top 20 skills and I don't care if it's career or personal skills. Next, ask how you could prove each of your skills, each of those top 20 skills to an employer who doesn't know you. Three, figure out the direct ways that your top skills would benefit the new career. For example, if one of your top skills is networking figure out the direct application of networking in this new career or this new job. Then, figure out the indirect ways those skills would benefit the new career. Again, with networking, your skill in networking probably makes you a good communicator. So in what ways would your communication skills benefit your new career. Once you have all of that figured out and then the most important thing is how much you like to do the skill, and the second most important thing is how well you can prove the skill with the experience of what you've already done. If none of these top 20 skills has a direct or indirect application to the new career or if you can't prove any of them, then you need really get down to the trenches and look through all of your skills and figure out ways to improve them, ways to broaden them and most important, ways to prove them to an employer that doesn't know you. All right that's it. For more videos, go to www.marketabilitytraininglibrary.com I'll see you there.
