Erick Michielson: How do you applied your classic education in philosophy and Pre-med to your modern roles across technology, media and entertainment? Caroline Giegerich: I love this question because when I came out of college and didn’t go on a medical school and my father’s first response was, “Well you failed us.” Because I was a philosophy major which in his mind it's just not okay. But there is this one class in philosophy that I think is the highlight of just, for any business executive? Erick Michielson: Yeah. Caroline Giegerich: A really good way to think through a problems and it was called logic. And logic is the idea of taking arguments apart and basically putting them into almost algebraic equations and then thinking them through. Well this one class I think I have applied and pretty much every business situation I've ever been it. Be it, I’m at the LA Times I’m in sales, I’m trying to negotiate, I’m at HBO, I’m having a business develop conversation, I’m talking social media. I’m thinking of new technologies for HBO sports. Any conversation I can imagine, logic is always at the core because as your thinking of the new idea, you have to think about execution of the idea— Erick Michielson: Right. Caroline Giegerich: And you also have to deal with the naysayers who tell you five reasons why you can't do it. Five reasons why you can't make the sale.
