Sri Lanka has a unique job offer up for grabs to worthy applicants. The prison department is beginning the interview process to select an executioner. It is a daunting task, as there are nearly 200 possible candidates to pick from. Three members of a panel will be conducting the interviews at the prison. Two jobs are currently available: the hangman and the hangman’s aide. Although banned till few years back, Sri Lanka now enforces the death penalty for drug trafficking, rape or murder and there are hundreds of row prisoners in jail waiting for their execution. It seems executioners are hard to find. Back in 2010, Zimbabwe was desperately trying to find a strong candidate to become the executioner. The prison had reportedly been looking since 2005 after the last hangman quit. The requirements stated, “The job demands strength and unwavering focus. It is not for the faint-hearted." According to a former police officer, "A hangman should never have second thoughts, if he does he should be retired.”
